to "OIL PORTRAITS"
This site features a small collection of commissioned portraits I have painted throughout the years. Unlike many portrait artists who paint exclusively from life, I prefer to work from photographs, thus avoiding the inconvenience and expense associated with sittings. I use as many photographs as possible and  prefer to keep the background simple, so that the client remains the focal point and not distracted by "props" as I call them. Of course, if a formal or scenic background is preferred, I will comply with the client's wishes....at an additional cost.

While the camera provides a photographic record of a particular time or event in the client's life, the painted portait transcends the literal image, thus capturing a separate reality for the future.  I say, celebrate life and preserve a loved one's memory with an heirloom portrait.

The three paintings pictured above are displayed in the Administration Office of Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, MA.  The larger painting in the center is Brother Florentius, FMS, who founded Central Catholic in 1935 to provide boys from Lawrence and vicinity the previously unavailable opportunity to receive a Catholic high school education.  In September, 1996, Central Catholic went co-ed.  Brother Florentius died suddenly on May 1, 1938.

The painting on the right is Brother Linus Joseph, FMS. A beloved teacher, he also coached the Hockey Team from 1945-1951.  He left Central for seven years and returned on September 1958.  Brother Linus died in February, 1979.

The painting on the left is Brother Simeon Brian, FMS.  He was the school's Treasurer from 1962-1979.  Brother Simeon died at age 60 on March 19, 1979.
